What is a Class B camper van?

What is a Class B camper van?

A Class B is a camper van — an RV built inside the body of a production van, most often a Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, or Ram ProMaster. Everything tucks into the van's footprint: a bed, a small galley, a wet bath in most models, and clever storage, all without making the vehicle any bigger than the van it started as.

That compact size is the whole point. A Class B fits in a normal parking space, slips down forest-service roads a big coach can't touch, returns by far the best fuel economy in RVing, and can double as your everyday vehicle. For couples, remote workers, and boondockers who value going anywhere over sprawling out, nothing beats it.

The trade-off is space. You give up the room, tank capacity, and separate bedroom of a bigger RV, and you pay a premium per foot for all that engineering packed into a small box. But for the right traveler, a Class B is the most usable, least stressful RV on the market.

The honest read

Why buyers choose Class B Camper Vans — and what to watch

What buyers love

  • Drives and parks like a van — no special skills, no oversized-vehicle anxiety.
  • Best fuel economy of any RV class, often by a wide margin.
  • Stealthy and practical enough to be a second vehicle or daily driver.
  • Quick to set up and break camp — and it gets down roads bigger rigs can't.
  • Built on reliable, widely serviced van chassis.

What to watch

  • Tight living space — it's built for two, snug for a small family.
  • Small fresh, grey, and black tanks mean more frequent fills and dumps.
  • Highest price per foot of any class for all that packaging.
  • Limited standing room and storage compared to a Class C or A.
Who it's for

Class B is perfect for couples, solo travelers, remote workers, and weekend adventurers who prize mobility, fuel economy, and the ability to park and drive anywhere over square footage and big tanks.

How we help

Buying or selling a Class B camper van? We work for you, not the lot

Whether you're buying or selling a Class B, we sit on your side of the table. Our buyer's agent service finds the right one and negotiates the price down; our RV broker service sells the one you already own for the real retail number it's worth — not the wholesale figure a dealer offers on trade. Every used coach gets an independent inspection before money moves, and our mobile repair network keeps it running afterward. We never take your RV in on trade or sell one off a lot — we're paid to get you a good deal, not to move inventory.

Questions

Class B Camper Vans — buyer FAQs

Can I use a Class B as my everyday vehicle?
Many owners do. A camper van is no harder to drive or park than the production van underneath it, so it works as a daily driver or second vehicle in a way no other RV can — one of the biggest reasons people choose Class B.
Why are Class B vans so expensive for their size?
You're paying for engineering, not square footage. Fitting a bed, galley, bathroom, power system, and water tanks into a van body without making it bigger is costly work, which is why Class B carries the highest price per foot. We help you judge whether a given van is priced fairly.
Do you broker and inspect camper vans?
Yes. We help you buy or sell a Class B, and every used van gets an independent inspection of the conversion, house systems, and chassis before money moves.
